Rolling Greens GC, April 17th, 2010:
The NJ-ASGA golf season officially
began on Saturday, April 17th at Rolling Greens GC in Newton, NJ. 19 golfers
were very glad the season was starting, but were very unhappy about the very
chilly weather conditions. For some of us, ski apparel was a far better choice
to wear than normal golf apparel. Along with all the normal pre-outing
announcements, the group was happy to congratulate Tony Perino on his
"hole-in-one" at Darlington GC in Mahwah while playing with his son during the
week. We braved the weather conditions and ended up at Sheridan's Lodge in
Newton for dinner. It was nice and cozy there where outing prizes were awarded
to Joe Cifune and Flo Wiener for closest-to-the-pin; and long drive honors went
to Lisa Rademacher for the women and Tony Perino for the men.
Walkill Golf Course, May 1st, 2010:
Our golf outing schedule for the month of May began at Wallkill GC in
Middletown, NY. Leon Saddler organized a "sold-out" outing that was accompanied
by spectacular golfing weather. The course was in great condition and provided
our Chapter with a very enjoyable round of golf. Joe Cifune won closest-to-the
pin for the men, and Debbie Wolf took the honors for the women. Helena Van Norde
and Lisa Rademacher won prizes for the longest drive hole. Following the outing,
we enjoyed a tasty dinner and pleasant conversation at the Double Tree
Steakhouse on Rte. 17 in Mahwah, NJ. Thanks Leon for all your efforts.
Apple Greens GC, May 8th,
2010: Bert Hermann
planned another "sold-out" event the following week at Apple Greens GC in
Highland, NY. Golfers carpooled from the Sheraton Hotel in Mahwah where the
conversation centered on whether or not we would need our rain gear and
umbrellas. As luck would have it, the rain ceased and we saw some blue skies as
we were about to tee-off. The dry weather prevailed, HOWEVER the golfers who are
attending the National outing in Scotland at the beginning of August got a very
realistic preview of playing conditions there. The winds were phenomenal and
were a true test of golfing skills in those conditions. Craig Marra took home
the prizes for closest-to-the-pin and long drive for the men. Great job Craig!
Janet Wicka won longest drive for the women. Members then went to Gadaleto's ( a
wonderful seafood restaurant in the area) and enjoyed a very nice dinner. Thanks
go to Bert for organizing the event.
Maveric Driving Range, May
15th, 2010: Chuck
Kreysig once again arranged for a special day for our membership to get some
good instruction and practice aimed at improving their skills and golf games.
On a sunny, breezy Saturday afternoon, 9 members were given some basic lessons
in golf by PGA teaching Pro Bill Spicer. We assembled at 3:15pm at the Maveric
Driving Range in Lyons, NJ and at 3:30pm Bill started the instruction. For about
30 minutes, he showed us the golf grip, how to address the ball, the swing, and
general info regarding the game. He emphasized that we should enjoy the game no
matter what level we play at. After the instruction, we then were able to
practice what he taught us. During our time in practice, Bill came around to
each student and made constructive comments to assist each one individually. We
could have stayed as long as we wanted at the range; but after about an hour or
so, we left to have dinner at the Cafe Rustica, which is a charming restaurant
close by. All in all, the experience was very rewarding; and we all agreed that
Bill was an excellent instructor with a very cordial teaching manner. A great
time was had by all.
Delaware
Water Gap, June 11-12th, 2010:
We had a great turnout for our 1st
overnight at The Delaware Water Gap CC. According to Linda Madernini who
graciously organized the outing, "Friday was a great evening. Rumor was 160
showed up for the scramble including 12 members from the North Jersey Chapter.
Following the scramble with beautiful mountain views on the back 9, our group
met in the outdoor dining room for dinner where we enjoyed DJ music all evening.
Following dinner, Geri Powder had a betting group ante up for a game of 'Left,
Right, Center'. Hedda's lucky streak led her to walk away with the
winnings."
Saturday brought questionable weather
that never materialized so all enjoyed a dry day on the picturesque golf course
in the Poconos. Corinne Cullison and Chuck Liggio proved to have both accuracy
and driving distance in their games for the day as they took home both prizes
for "closest-to-the-pin" and "longest drive". Congrats to them! The
evening brought dinner again in the outdoor dining area with enjoyable "oldies"
music from a former member of the Coasters. As expected, there was dancing
as some members took a walk down memory lane doing the "Stroll" and the "Twist".
We were not so fortunate on Sunday as far as the weather went. After a few
holes, a storm blew through and the course was evacuated. That, however, did not
dampen the spirits (just their clubs and golf clothes) of 10 members who decided
to head to Pub 199 for a seafood lunch. The "Gap" was generous and
provided all golfers with a 9-hole rain check. Overall, it was a fun-filled
weekend for which we owe a great deal of thanks to Linda Madernini for her
efforts in organizing a great outing.
Minebrook GC, June 26th, 2010:
23 golfers attended the
Minebrook GC outing in Hackettstown, NJ. It was a warm day, but a day where
thunderstorms and rain were never an issue. Beverly Boyle took home the prize
for longest drive for the women. Frank Hopler won the long drive contest for the
men. Elizabeth Mark demonstrated her accuracy skill in taking the prize for
closest-to-the-pin. 21 golfers went to Pub 199 for dinner where lobsters, clams,
crab legs, and steak seem to make a big hit is satisfying appetites after a fun
day of golf.
